I grew up in El Paso, Texas. As a child, I made frequent trips
to Cuidad Juarez where my grandparents were living. Portions
of my summers were spent in Albuquerque and Roswell (with visits
to Santa Fe) so I’ve had a connection to New Mexico for
as long as I remember. I am part of a unique tribe that grew
up between cultures. I still struggle to find firm footing in
either one. The struggle seems more pronounced on borders because
the land – the geography – is all the same. An imaginary
line ran down the center of the river bed but it was all home
to me. I received a BFA (with honors) from the University of
Arizona and completed a teaching accreditation program at Southern
Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon.
Sculptural ceramics is the term I use to describe most of the
work I do. I work primarily in porcelain and wire although not
exclusively. Recent installations combine
wheel thrown or handbuilt forms assembled to produce a larger
piece. A scribble on my studio wall says, “trigger
awareness – change perception.” That
sums up the intent of my work.
My studio is open by appointment.
